Hi Guys.
I have seen this done before on electrics, does it hold up well under playing "pressure"? Anyone ever do this on an acoustic?

I am in the thought stages of my first dedicated inlay acoustic- John K. you listening?

Thanks
Craig L.

Hey, I like the idea except I am afraid that when I wasn't playing, my wife might be tempted to cut meat on it!

Craig, I don't think that Corian would be all that good as it is a softer material than Micarta (used on some Martin guitars). As corian is easier to cut and work, I would think Martin would have gone that route instead of Micarta if was really viable.

Don, you may be right, Micarta might be harder than Corian, but I can't
believe Corian isn't more wear resistant than any of the woods used for
fretboards. Based on what I've seen of Craig's work in the past, I can't wait
to see what he has up his sleeve on this one.

Craig, Steve Spodaryk made a small parlor guitar that's a copy of a pre-
civil war Martin. The fretboard is a synthetic material and I believe he
used Corian to simulate ivory. The instrument is absolutely gorgeous and
is showcased on the Music Emporium's "Featured Instruments" section of
their web site:

Based on how our Corian kitchen countertops stand up to daily use, I
don't think you would have any problem at all.

C.Sullivan, I am more in line with your thoughts. I have seen it used before, Larry Robinson did a full-on inlay -Celtic Fender tele many years ago, and the fingerboard was stone corian. I was wondering becuase I know that guitar is never really going to be played.
I thought some of us here might have actual building experience with it.

Yes I do have an idea in my head for this one, It's a pretty clear vision. We'll see what happens when I get a builder willing to make me a jumbo cutaway bevelled armrest quilted sappelle back and sides guitar.

Any volunteers? Just send me quotes.

I will get the corian for the headstock and fretboard.

A paying gig? Sure I'll bite! What kind of details you looking for besides the armrest? Send me a list, I'll give you a quote....PM me.

Corian will be a bit heavy is all... but I think it would make a decent fretboard. You will definitely be able to do some cool stuff with inlay on it...

Is corian flexible enough to withstand the flexing requirements of a fretboard without cracking? Also wondering about it's compressibility to withstand the loading of a trussrod. Just asking as I don't have a feel for it.
